Wednesday – Electro House remix. 22/02/12. Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris – We Found Love (Thell Bootleg)

Wednesday’s child tried online dating,

Quick let me get this post out before this song gets overplaye… oh shit, im seriously watching cricket right now, New Zealand vs South Africa, and the song is blaring over the loudspeakers (not joking either, this is happening right now). If you need any proof of a song being overplayed, go to any major sporting match, and outside of Darude – Sandstorm (which can never be heard too much), every single song has been played at least 4 times today on every radio station, including talk back.

To get to that level though, it has to be a somewhat decent song right? Well maybe not, but this one actually is. I’ve long since lauded Calvin Harris for being one of the few producers out there that can lend their own voice to their songs. And Rihanna, the Barbados beauty, has always been a favourite of mainstream club DJ’s for her hybrid House-Pop. Put them together and you have a happy household where the only punches thrown are the ones of gleeful drunk patrons in the air every Friday night.

Shit, South Africa won, fuck Calvin Harris, Rihanna you bitch! Who else do I have to blame.. ahhh its all Guetta’s fault, it always it.

Just listen to the damn song for the 5th time today and add your number to the list of 134 million people who have watched the video.

So now to the real reason we are here today, Thell has released a free bootleg of We Found Love for your enjoyment, and trust me, it’s worth downloading.

A completely new percussive opening builds into the familiar happy chords of the original with Rihanna’s blabbing about falling in love in the back of a Volkswagon (Mallrats‘ fan will get it). This is a great track to play full blast with your little sister around as what appears to drop into the smooth bouncy house beats is completely ripped apart (like your sisters childhood) with stupidly aggressive sawlike electro that has been run through a power blender packed with protein powder and bricks. Drop this on your Wednesday night set to amp the energy in your crowd, speaking of amps, you might want to lower the gains beforehand.

Wednesday – Electro House remix. 15/02/12. Foo Fighters – Rope (Deadmau5 remix)

Wednesday’s child was gracious in his confusion,

“For me this award means alot because it shows that the human element of making rock is the most important. Singing into a microphone and learning to play an instrument and learning your craft is the most important thing for people to do. It’s not about being perfect. It’s not about sounding correct. It’s not about what goes on in a computer. It’s about what goes on in here (points to heart) and what goes on in here (points to head.)”

Said the man in his band’s 2012 Grammy acceptance speech, the man who has a great working relationship with the rigored rodent who had their song Rope up for a Grammy in the best remix category, ultimately losing to Skrillex‘s remix of Benny Benassi’s Cinema. Which brings me to another point, I think the Grammys should take heed to what The Daily Remix Blog is trying to achieve, to show EDM remixes to great tracks from outside our world, if Cinema can win, why can’t Zedd‘s remix of Scary Monsters be up, for in my mind, it is much better than the original, and if the original won best dance album, does this make Zedd the best DJ alive.. I think yes. Hail the Zedd, hail the man who pronounces the last letter of the alphabet the way it should be.

Check out the Foo Fighters Rope video below to see what white boys do best, dance horribly out of rhythm. (It is made up for though with a wicked drum solo and heavy distorted guitars. This is a bloody decent song that feels like it’s right out of The Color & The Shape).

(blog continues below)

The legendary rocker did add this in a succeeding interview – “So, don’t give me two Crown Royals and then ask me to make a speech at your wedding, because I might just bust into the advantages of recording to 2 inch tape.
Now, I think I have to go scream at some kids to get off my lawn.

So I guess all is forgiven within the heartless world of dance music? We know now and I supposed then that Grohl really was targeting the beat machines of today’s Pop and R&B world as he later clarified his support of Deadmau5 and Skrillex while explaining he meant that music is too easily touched up, too perfect and lacks personality. I tend to agree, but as I have a massive man-crush on the former Nirvana drummer, I’ll go with anything he says.

FooMau5 toured festivals extensively throughout the world in 2011 culminating as the finale acts of the 20th anniversary of Lollapalooza to which yours truly survived a monsoon to enjoy both at opposite ends of Grant Park. Dave & Joel are good friends, and performed Rope live at the Grammys as seen in the video directly below. You will find the official remix as is at the bottom of the blog.

Tuesday – Tech House. 14/02/12. Happy Valentines Day! DJ Antoine – Every Breath (Clubzound Remix)

Tuesday’s child, in lieu of her boyfriend, cuddled her Lotso teddy bear to sleep every night,

This is the perfect song for my Valentines day. A song about a lover, about passion, heartache and heartbreak. Sting himself even muses about how people mistake this song for a dainty little love song, and whilst it does sound like you would imagine it would at the end of The Vow with Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams running towards each other on the beach in a torrential downpour with her clothes clinging tighter and tighter to that tighter Canadian tight body that is oh so tight… mmmmmmcAdams..

Anyways, to those like me experiencing the ups and downs of a long distance relationship, you might find solace in the words of the song, to yearn and to learn, but more importantly to believe. I love my girlfriend with all my heart, and she will understand the pains of this song for they are very real pains, but in order for hurt to exist you need to know how happy you can be, and I’ve never been so happy than when I’m with her. So Happy Valentines to you my dear and to all readers out there. Enjoy Sting’s most successful song for what it is, a REAL love song.

For those who are like, fuck that shit mate, I don’t want no depressing as song to represent the love I have for my darling Fatima, then I have an epipen of a decent tech house remix to treat you of that obvious Sting allergy you have. DJ Antoine has robbed the original lyrics of any deeper meaning and with the help of fellow remixer Clubzound; they have added an upbeat melody of progressive keys and electro bips & stabs over a strong delectable tribal Tech bassline. With clever short breakdowns the original is paid homage, but overall this is a completely new sound that is quirky, energetic and fun.

Monday – Indie Dance remix. 13/02/12. Skrillex – Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites (Dualist Bootleg remix)

Monday’s child won 3 Grammys, …the fuck?

Sonny Moore went from unknown emopunk to international stuperstar (a stupid star) Skrillex by the end of 2010 with his first big single Scary Monster & Nice Sprites. Like the 8th year freshman who finally won the state wrestling award (and still looks less gay than Sonny’s haircut), it’s surprising this song was eligible for 2012 awards. One might think that if it were due up for the 2011 Grammy Dance Awards it would have had trouble beating the winners from what are arguably the two best DJ’s alive, Beyonce and La Roux.

Nice Sprites won for Best Dance Album & Best Dance Recording whilst Cinema won Best Remix (of Benny Benassi’s version). BUT and he must feel terrible about this, just so utterly ruined, because he did lose the Best Short Form Music Video. “Bahahahahahahaha, man he sucks! I guess I should leave it a few weeks before we remind him that he lost Best New Artist too. I would just feel terrible if he went on suicide watch“.

Like the Ramones to the Sex Pistols, while the British punk invasion swept the United States, the Ramones were reinventing the energy of Punk towards a more popular base with upbeat rhythms and popular messages. The resulting sound found it’s way back to Britain and helped change the scene forever. The same could be said about today’s artist, the new suizure enducing wub wub made its way across the Atlantic to audiences looking for something different. Like every good progressive genre, Sonny added an almost orchestral element to Dubstep that gave it a very surprising yet likeable sound that brought Dubstep to the mainstream.

Naysayers will say that he is everything that is wrong with EDM, and whilst I’m not a huge fan, the fact he is bringing new fans to our world, makes an awesome Halloween costume, has a sweet audio/visual live show AND the Grammy’s Dance awards were actually represented entirely by DJ’s for once, how can that be bad?

Check out the real reason why Skrillex won the Grammy, cupstacka!!

Feels like the animals joined the rhythym section in the build.
Is there such a thing as indie dubstep?
The New Delhi based producer Dualist Inquiry is in touch with his inner Sharma with this mix. With a Van Morrison meets Led Zeppelin style intro, the listener has little clue of the original, it isn’t until heavily synthesized organ like guitar riffs take hold that the shape becomes recognizable. The first two minutes are so pleasurably relaxing with the childlike vocal sample playfully hinting of the daunting drop to come. Where the cupstacking girl had her moment, she is dropped from this remake as there is no need for an Oh My Gosh moment. Is there such a thing as indiewub? There is now, with a very relaxing downtempo dubstep rhythm completely devoid of the happiness of the intro but gratefully not as angry and forceful from what we might expect.

Dropping back and forth between the 70 and 128bpm is like waiting for the electricity to restart for your 5th time on the bumper cars, you never get tired of it, but you appreciate the lulls in between for which to recover. I have never been so surprised by any remix of basically any song since starting this blog, and whether it’s the water in India I don’t know, but whatever Dualist ingested, he has certainly shit gold with this remix.

And hey, to those still pissed at The Grammy’s (which after listening to the remix I don’t know how you can still have anger), just realize that they are starting to look into the world of EDM bit by bit and given time, it will get better. You know what? it could have been a lot worse, at least Guetta didn’t win.

Sunday – Deep House remix. 12/02/12. Whitney Houston – Judgement Day (Core via Soul remix)

Sunday’s child will always love you,

What can be said? It is with sadness that I feature a song from one of the most beautiful voices ever released upon this earth. Where pop stars nowadays put more effort into their singing than Sharapova on a backhand, Whitney Houston and her stunning mezza-soprano voice resounded effortlessly.

Whitney Houston is the most awarded female artist of all time, having amassed over 400 in her long career. It is with heartfelt irony that she passes on the eve of the biggest musical ceremony, the 54th Grammy Awards, to which she was dutifully honored throughout the procession.

Today I am listening to my favourite song by the New Jersey diva, My Love Is Your Love, for there is no more perfect song for the romantic occasion of Valentines day this week. Thank you Ms. Houston.

(blog continues below)

On one hand you have the 415 awards, the 170 million albums sold, 7 consecutive #1 hits, hugely influential in the direction of modern Soul & R&B, and then on the other hand you have the dysfunctional relationship with Bobby Brown, multiple drug and alcohol addictions, eating disorders and worst of all she helped to make Keven Kostner more famous than he ever should have been.

So where does she go on Judgement Day? Lam Spread and Marc Miles have provided the question that only she can answer. Taking echoed lines from My Love is Your Love, this Deep House track is accompanied with uptempo latin percussion and soft synths that repeat throughout. It surely doesn’t sound much like the original, but based on the surrounding events of the past day, there couldn’t be a more fitting remix to pay tribute to Whitney Houston. It feels like she is speaking to you from above, making you surmise your own mortality.

Saturday – Progressive House remix. 11/02/12. Florence & The Machine – What The Water Gave Me (Romeo Blanco remix)

Saturday’s child was drowning,

I’ve got a dig bick
You this read wrong,
You read that wrong too.

Dyslexia can make for some funny tripe, where DJ’s remix other songs electronically, dyslexic people can remix people’s songs vocally, without even trying, the bastard luckys. Like Lyme disease and the Muppet syndrome, Dyslexia at least sounds cool, it can be the basis for a battle rappers name ‘Diss-lexic’ or a DJ’s monikor ‘Disc-lexic’ or that new indie pop new wave hipster teen faux pa band ‘Anorexia Dyslexia and the Forever Bummer Summer’.

What the hell does this have to do with today’s song you ask? (did you really ask that?) Well, another weirdly funky name has been hitting the circuits more than Lyndsey Lohan’s electroshock therapist. Florence and the Machine, based out of foggy London town have exploded internationally since the release of Dog Days Are Over in 2008. Florence (I’m not a grape) Welch was initially diagnosed with Dyslexia (and Dyspraxia and Depression, the unsexy Triple D) which ultimately left her with a fascination of death and doooooom.

Upon hearing the 2011 single What The Water Gave Me from the group’s 2nd studio album Ceremonials, you might think you are being drawn into a poetic hymn of the life giving properties of water, but upon further inspection, you learn that Ms. Welch was inspired, yes inspired by .”all those people who’ve lost their lives in vain attempts to save their loved ones from drowning“.

Check out the video below for stages of the band’s recording from the infamous Abbey Road studios.

(blog continues below)

I recently stumbled on to the Belgium producer Romeo Blanco who specializes in the art of seductive Progressive House music, and today’s remix is singlehandedly responsible for a spate of recent pregnancies within the Antwerp club scene.

His remix to What The Water Gave Me opens with dark rumbling bass like the onset of 1000 bulls as they are released through the streets of pamplona. The beasts disappear as it drops into a vacuum of repressed souls as Florence’s anything-but-machinelike vocals take shape with the original’s building bass guitar riff. Happy synths are introduced to make the listener aware of impending ‘plur’ity which doesn’t disappoint with an uplifting energetic drop of intoxicating synths and glitched vocals. The breakdown tick-tocks it’s way back into our consciousness as we enter round 2 for another battle for love with the White Romantic’s emperical Progressive House drop.

If you are experiencing a lull in your set tonight, this tune boasts a 10000 tonne hydraulic engine strong enough to pick up any crowd, and according to it’s warranty, it will never let them down.

Friday – House remix. 10/02/12. Valero – Sunglasses At Night [Corey Hart]

Friday’s child played for the Brewers,

The man most would associate as a one hit wonder with Sunglasses At Night actually released a higher charting and better selling song Never Surrender a couple of years later. It’s ironic that it became such an important Canadian song, sure the Canucks take pride in never surrendering, but since the great white north is like that awkward kid filming the fight with his RAZR from a safe distance, when would they have ever had the chance to not wave the white flag? It’s like American’s never give up on their dreams, through the amount of artificial food and prescription drugs, what dreams can they have to never give up on?

Without further delving into the Canadian psyche, lets take it back to Corey Hart’s first single, Sunglasses At Night. The iconic New Wave hit is more a political snapshot of a police state than about some douche in your local club, however I don’t give a crap about 1980’s politics, but I do hate with a passion people that wearing sunglasses at night, so the next time you see a prospective douche in your local club wearing shades, follow these steps to determine what you should do –

Step 1: Check if this person may be affected by one of the following afflictions
Blind – Look around for a dog, or a cane, if none present, reach forward with your left thumb towards their mouth until they either stop it or start sucking
Double dipping – If you touch their skin, do they shudder or giggle? If so, then realize that their pupils are more dialated than octomom’s cervix
Migraines – Believable if they are deaf maybe? Try telling them you appreciate their neck gobble.
Puerto Ricans – (Don’t ask)
Abused wives – Just be aware that she has already been told, twice
Twihards – Throw 3.2 lbs of glitter on them and see if they sparkle
Terminators – Again, look around for a dog, if none present, ask them what they think of Christian Bale

Step 2: If they fail step one, query their reasoning. If they reply with either of the following quotes
Because when you’re cool, the sun shines on you 24 hours a day
Because I party til the sun comes up

Step 3: Rip off their sunnies and defacate on their grandmothers grave. No reason is good enough to wear sunglasses at night.

Over the years through careful inner appreciation and self worth did Hart’s song writing measure up to his aging maturity, it can be heard in such songs as Jenny Fey & In Yo.. “Shut the fuck up! do you really think I want to read about Corey Hart’s career? When I hear his name, I think only of drunken Home Runs in Milwaukee, just play the fucking song already and get to the remix..”

(blog continues below)

OK, after careful selective processing, I think I’m over the fact that I might be the only person under 50 that cares what happened to this portrayal of 80’s synth pop godliness, I mean the guy has kids named India, Dante, River & Rain, AND he was nearly Marty McFly, how is that not cool? However, I know I won’t be the alone in loving today’s remix by a talented German producer Valero.

The man knows what people want to hear, apparently in order to be a decent remixer nowadays, you need to give your take on one of these two tracks – Somebody That I Used To Know and Levels. Valero does both! However, he goes a lot further than that with sweet remixes to Salt N Pepa, Aloe Blacc, Adele, Yolada Be Cool & Dcup, Kings Of Leon and Fatboy Slim! He is simply the reason why The Daily Remix Blog needs to change underwear right now with so many exciting tunes to choose from. However we are settling for Sunglasses At Night for now.

There is nothing drunk chicks love more than hearing songs they know from their parents era, even if its portrayed completely differently “heeeeey, I know this song, hold on eiiisha, gimme my purse… NOW.. thank you darling, love you. OMG listen to this song, I wear my Sunglasses at night, and would you look at me now, Im wearing my sunglasses at night, so I can so i can ugh yheah yhhh story goes.. I love this sooooong, but it sounds different, wierd, the pills must be kicking in, sweet! Ummm, like excuse me, can you like umm take a picture of us three wearing sunglasses… AT NIGHT!!! bahahaha, but no seriously, take the picture. Hi im Jessica by the way, LOL, you should buy me a drink.”

Now where was I? Oh, right, Valero’s remix features a bouncy rhythmical house beat with a glowing arpeggio of organ synths that lie beneath upbeat percussion and cleverly sampled vocals. The breakdown takes you back to 1983 with the classic sullen new wave sound and Hart’s ‘I’m trying to look and sound sexy at the same time but end up doing neither‘ voice. A quick drum fill drops back into the happy heart of this remix that brings the collective mood of the room up a few notches, that is until someone whips on their sunglasses and you collectively beat the shit out of them.
